This stunning living room had high ceilings, a brick fireplace and extraordinary tudor-style windows. The sofas and rug were already in place, but the room needed livening up with additional furnishings, accessories and art. The owners, a young family with contemporary tastes, wanted to find a way to blend the traditional architecture with their own personal style. The solution was to complement the wood trim with an of-the-moment, custom live-edge coffee table, eclectic pillows and unusual accent pieces.
This painting was a seminal piece in the whole scheme. The color palette helped determine the other accents in the room. It was also chosen to complement the wood and brick that were already in place. Together, they create a beautifully warm space that is inviting yet interesting.
Behind the sofa was this comfy leather chair. Because the room was so large, this area seemed somewhat disconnected. We turned it into a discrete reading area by adding a side table. On the opposite side of the room, we added a similar, but not matching, leather chair and side table. The cognac leather again brought out the warm tones of the wood trim.
The existing sideboard was a little small for the scale of the room so we added accent chairs either side to carry the eye across a broader area. The client had a collection of glass bottles so we used those, a new lamp and some other ‘found’ accessories to tie everything together.
