This breakfast room was designed for a family with two young children. It needed to be a comfortable – yet practical – space for family meals, as well as a center for the kids’ arts and crafts. Although diminutive in size, the room appears much more spacious thanks to lots of natural light, an airy color palette and a round pedestal table which keeps visual ‘clutter’ to a minimum. We settled on Benjamin Moore’s Morning Dew for the walls and added pattern and texture with patterned fabric roman shades, walnut chairs and shelves and some splashes of orange in the art and accessories. The storage challenge is solved with a sideboard that stores art supplies both behind the cabinet doors and in baskets beneath. Durable laminate surfaces are easily wiped clean and the chairs easily accommodate booster seats when needed. The result is a pretty room that works for everyday family use.
